G. Michelle Goodloe, LCSW
Owner & Psychotherapist, The Essence of Healing LLC
My name is Gennifer Michelle Goodloe, but please call me Michelle!
I am a licensed clinical social worker in the states of Georgia and Illinois. With The Essence of Healing LLC, I provide virtual individual therapy to adults 18 years and older. I am a Black, cisgender, bisexual, millennial woman, spouse and mother. My pronouns are she/her.
The focus of my work is to help you find clarity with the adversities, challenges and stressors you are experiencing. For over 10 years, I have worked in clinical and non-profit settings with people who have experienced domestic violence, dating violence, childhood abuse, compassion fatigue and professional burnout. These experiences have inspired me to create this virtual private practice, to help you have a healthier relationship with yourself and with others.
Healing means putting energy into your recovery and restoration. Your process of healing is unique to you.
In our therapeutic relationship, you are the expert of what you have experienced. Using compassion, resiliency, accountability and mindfulness, I can help you strengthen your ability to become self-aware, explore your difficult, heavy feelings, better manage your stress and discover your (many) strengths.
As your therapist, I can help you learn more about yourself and what you need to feel better. I am extensively trained in being trauma-focused, which means that I understand and can identify how difficult, scary or hurtful experiences can impact you. I utilize therapeutic interventions such as trauma-informed, compassion-based and internal family systems (IFS) to address your concerns and together, we will develop ideas, strategies and coping skills to help you heal.
My clinical practice focuses on:
Healing from traumatic relationships
Surviving abuse from a loved one
Having difficulty moving forward from past relationships or friendships
Unsure and struggling with how to set and maintain boundaries
Creating peace with your inner critic
Highly critical of yourself
Afraid to make mistakes and try new things
Often feeling anxious or ‘stuck’
Your self-worth is defined by your work
Taking care of yourself better
Difficulty practicing self-care
Feeling guilt or shame when prioritizing your needs
Feeling burnt out and fatigued from caring for others
I earned my Masters of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and my Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University Bloomington. I have held clinical roles in domestic violence programs, community counseling groups and private practice settings. My professional experience as a social worker includes working directly with individuals, groups and families with organizations such as the Indiana, Illinois and Georgia Departments of Child and Family Services, Learning Through Play Child Development Center, the Illinois Early Intervention Program and Between Friends Domestic Violence Agency. I am formerly the first Child and Youth Project Manager with the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, where I developed, coordinated and facilitated local, regional and statewide training opportunities and technical assistance for Georgia direct service providers of child and youth witnesses of intimate partner violence.
